Accessibility

The Bait Shop is built for a phone in bright sun, and that means it should work for everyone. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.
What we do
- Large text and big tap targets, and high contrast between text and background.
- Plain text pages with real headings, lists and labels, so screen readers can follow them.
- Everything except the map picture works with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a "skip to main content" link.
- Forms have labels and clear error messages. Errors are announced to screen readers.
- You can zoom the page and resize the text without losing content.
- No photos, auto-playing media, or flashing content, and we respect the reduced-motion setting.
- The map has zoom buttons, a color key, and a plain text list of the lakes with recent reports right under it. You never need the map to find a lake: the home page has a searchable list of every lake and river.
Known gaps
The map is a drawn picture, so a screen reader can't read it, and opening a lake from the map takes a tap or a click. Use the lake list under the map, or the search on the home page, to get to the same lake pages with a screen reader or a keyboard. On the map, green means a lake has recent reports and tan means it doesn't. Lakes with reports are also drawn bigger and labeled, so the meaning does not rest on color alone.
We test new pages ourselves, and we can miss things.
